Synopsis

In the most unlikely of buddy road trip movies, legendary French New Wave filmmaker Agnes Varda travels through the French countryside with photographer and muralist JR. As a filmmaker in the final years of her career, Varda is on a mission to remember as many smiling, beautiful faces as possible. The bond formed between the two artists is enough to move anyone to tears and the art they create along the way will take your breath away. Agnes Varda and JR---France---2017---115 mins

I suppose that if an American tried to do what Varda did in this film, he or she would have gone to kinky localities and interviewed eccentrics. Varda chose to go to ordinary places and profile, with one exception, "ordinary" people. Bittersweet, because you know that Varda ia not going to be around much longer, but all in all a celebration of life. One thing, though, kept nagging at me. When I was in France years ago practically every wall had a sign, "Defense d'afficher, loi de ....." (Post no bills) pasted on it. If ever a law was more honored in the breach thereof that was it. Nevertheless, it was the law. Didn't Varda and JR worry about that?
