"Thousands of street cats live in Istanbul, the largest city in Turkey, as they have for centuries. Some are wild and fend for themselves, while others are tamer and are cared for by people. It focuses on seven of the cats, who are named Sari, Duman, Bengü, Aslan Parçasi, Gamsiz, Psikopat, and Deniz." Ceyda Torun--Turkey--2016--79 mins.

Film's makers admit that they made Kedi to cash in on internet cat mania. Nevertheless, cat lovers like me will overlook that. Not a great movie, but different. Reveals almost as much about the human friends of the felines as it does about the cats. If the subtitles can be believed, ordinary Turks are as articulate, even poetic, as Irishmen. Let's hope that Turkey's present rulers heed the message of love and mutual respect that Kedi conveys.
