Synopsis

Based on a true story, this powerful, award-winning film follows the events that befall a group of students who accidentally stumble upon a town controlled by a paranoid and fanatical priest. Labeled despots and communists, the students and the lone villager who takes them in find their fate at the hands of the townsfolk. Filmed in a stark, documentary style, Canoa is a strong comment on Mexico's socio-political environment in the late 1960-early 1970s. In Spanish with English subtitles.

Felipe Cazals---Mexico---1976---115 mins.
