Watching Son of Saul reminded me of St. Paul's verse about "seeing through a glass darkly". Literally. what with smoke and unfocused cameras. Plot was murky too: I didn't grasp what was going on until about half way through. Characters terse and tense, like I'm sure conspirators in concentration camps had to be. The extermination and cremation scenes seemed stylized, almost choreographed, but they were more harrowing than any other movie on the subject I've seen, almost as horrifying as newsreels I recall watching right after World War II. Other filmmakers could learn from them that subtlety and hints are often more effective than explicitness in conveying a message.

Good movie and as expected very sad. The actors do a great job at telling the story in a very convincing manner and deeply moving.
