Synopsis

Long before directing the internationally-acclaimed Antarctica (1983) and popular nature films, Koreyoshi Kurahara was a young film student at Nihon University, who worked his way into Nikkatsu studio in 1956. After assisting on Crazed Fruit, he directed a series of diverse, sensationalist, youth-oriented New Wave films. Black Sun (Kuroi Taiyo, 1964, 95 mins.) is a strange film about the escapades of a black GI who goes AWOL in Tokyo and a young, jazz-crazed hipster. With an original score by jazz drummer Max Roach. In Japanese with English subtitles.
