Synopsis

Filmed over the course of a year, this unprecedented documentary takes viewers behind the sleek facade of the New York Times Building and into the lofty paper's newsrooms, where veteran journalists (David Carr) and internet age reporters (Brian Stelter) are shadowed while pursuing stories from first lead to print. In addition to the day-to-day workings of the revered (and reviled) publication, Page One tries to predict the fate of The New York Times amidst a changing media landscape, where there are fewer legitimate players and even less profits to be made.

It is amazing how quickly documentaries like this become dated. In a way, that is good, as it gives a snapshot of events at the time of filming. It does not address issues such as bias or reporting techniques as much as the beginnings of focus shift to online digital content and the effects of lack of advertising revenue. The production was pleasant for me in the lack of obvious "agenda flogging" like so many other "documentaries.
