Synopsis

In Lee Chang-dong's follow-up to Secret Sunshine, Korean screen veteran Yun Jung-hee (Mist) plays a 60-something woman who has just been diagnosed with Alzheimer's. Though she works diligently as a maid for an older man and the caretaker of her indolent grandson (Lee Da-wit), she still finds the time and the stamina to enroll in a poetry class. But true inspiration doesn't strike her until she learns of her teenage grandson's involvement in the rape of a female classmate, whose body is found floating in the river. "Jung-hee's performance is delicately given, in that she seems to be concealing nothing, and yet we remain outside. Aware of her diagnosis, we look for signs of memory loss, but she remembers, all right. It's just that she is more focused on poetry at the moment" (Roger Ebert, Chicago Sun-Times). Winner of Best Screenplay, an Ecumenical Prize, and nominated for the Golden Palm at Cannes. In Korean with English subtitles.

Lee Chang-dong---South Korea---2010---139 mins.

I loved this movie; it describes in many ways the problems with today's teenagers who are immerse in video games and an absence of communication with their families. I recommend this movie
