Synopsis

The Pre-Code Hollywood Collection contains six tales of immorality that came before the 1934 Production Code and then went into the Universal vault. Disc 1: The Cheat (George Abbott, 1931, 74 mins.) stars Tallulah Bankhead as a married woman who goes in debt to a businessman and pays it off in the bedroom. Merrily We Go to Hell (Dorothy Arzner, 1932, 78 mins.) Fredric March and Sylvia Sidney play a husband and wife who spurn each other with old flames and the bottle. Disc 2: In Hot Saturday (William A. Seiter, 1932, 73 mins.), Nancy Carroll has a bad reputation that gets even worse when she befriends a rich playboy (Cary Grant) behind her fiance's back. In Torch Singer (Alexander Hall, 1933, 71 mins.), Claudette Colbert plays a nightclub singer who uses a spot on a radio show to track down the illegitimate daughter she earlier put up for adoption. Disc 3: Murder at the Vanities (Mitchell Leisen, 1934, 89 mins.) is backstage musical mystery that features murder, numbers about marijuana, and Kitty Carlisle. Lastly, Search for Beauty (Erle C.
