Synopsis

Abbas Kiarostami followed Where Is the Friend's Home? and Life and Nothing More with this semi-documentary that fuses the fictional and real-life drama from the aforementioned films. A director (Mohamad Ali Keshavarz) takes his crew back to a rural region of Iran that was devastated by an earthquake. They are casting for a romance about young lovers, but the filmmakers get more than they bargained for when they pick two leads (Hossein Rezai and Tahereh Ladania) who share a real, more compelling, back story. Nominated for the Golden Palm at Cannes and chosen by Cahiers du Cinema as one of the ten best films of 1995. In Farsi with English subtitles.
