Synopsis

Robert De Niro is Travis Bickle, a New York cabbie and "God's lonely man" in Martin Scorsese''s masterful depiction of urban isolation and psychosis. Paul Schrader''s deeply personal screenplay draws on his own experiences, the diary of Arthur Bremer (the man who attempted to kill George Wallace), and John Ford''s The Searchers to create one of the cinema''s great loners. The intensity of the film grows as Travis transforms himself from awkward outsider to violent avenger, intent on assassinating a presidential candidate and "saving" an adolescent prostitute (Jodie Foster). Disturbing and provocative with subtle and surprising shades of humor, Taxi Driver is one of the most important and influential films ever made. With Harvey Keitel, Cybill Shepherd, Albert Brooks and Peter Boyle. Bernard Herrmann''s great music score Martin Scorsese---USA---1976---113 mins.
