Synopsis

Albert Finney became a star and made this British New Wave film--Reisz' first feature--a box office hit with the defiant phrase, "Don''t let the bastards grind you down." Finney''s brooding performance as the young Nottingham factory worker lashing out at the working class and his "dead from the neck up" parents is still fresh today. With Shirley Anne Field, Bryan Pringle, Hylda Baker, Norman Rossington, Colin Blakely and Rachel Roberts as his sad-sack Karel Reisz---Great Britain---1960---89 mins.

Another of those old British-rebel movies, this one launching the career of Albert Finney, who's excellent as the arrogant but aimless young man. The events are pretty standard, affair with a married woman, accidental pregnancy, abortion, and the fustiness of old Britain, which can seem a little dated, but still manage to pull you in, especially with Finney's talent.
