Synopsis

John Waters narrates this upbeat, cautionary docu-tale about the Salton Sea and its mad inhabitants. Once considered the "California Riviera," this saltwater retreat-turned-forgotten ecological disaster is now home to rotting fish, abandoned resorts, broiling heatwaves, and some scattered people who happily call it home: a drunken Eastern European radical, a senior citizen/nudist, and a zealot constructing a monument to God in the middle of a wasteland. "A heartbreaking, sidesplitting parade of humanity" (Village Voice). Aired as part of the Sundance Channel's original series The Chris Metzler/Jeff Springer---USA---2004---73 mins.
