cynical and skeptical anti war movie made by director kubrick before he decided to try satire and dark humor as in " dr strangelove..." Adolph menjou is a poliicaaly aware general who evaluates success and casualties with cold blooded shrewdness. KIRK DOUGLAS IS A PASSIONATE officer who naive about thought processes of his superiors.
