Synopsis

The ultimate set devoted to Mary Shelley's monster and his disturbed creator features five different takes on the classic story and is guaranteed to spark life into any horror fan. James Whale''s classic, Frankenstein (1931, 71 mins.), is the definitive version, with Boris Karloff delivering a career-defining performance as the strangely sympathetic, horrific creation. Karloff returns in the equally entertaining sequel, Bride of Frankenstein (James Whale, 1935, 75 mins.), with Elsa Lanchester playing his created mate as well as Mary Shelley in the prologue. Son of Frankenstein (Rowland V. Lee, 1939, 99 mins.) features a great cast in th e story of the doctor''s son (Basil Rathbone) who returns to his ancestral home and resumes his father''s work. Karloff again plays the monster, with Bela Lugosi as the deranged Ygor. Ygor returns in the eerie sequel, Ghost of Frankenstein (Erle C. Kenton, 1942, 68 mins.), to foil a plot to switch the monster''s brain with that of an educated human. Finally, House of Frankenstein (Erle C. Kenton, 1944, 77 mins.) stars Karloff and J. Carr ol Naish as a scientist and his hunchback assistant who conjure up Dracula, Frankenstein, and Wolfman to carry out their evil intentions. With Lon Cha ney Jr., John Carradine, Anne Gwynne, Peter Coe, and Glenn Strange''s first James Whale/Rowland V. Lee/Erle C. Kenton---USA---1931/1935/1939/1942/1944
