Synopsis

The struggles endured by Iranian women in their native country are chronicled in three masterful vignettes directed by Marzieh Meshkini, wife of acclaimed filmmaker Mohsen Makhmalbaf. With subtlety and grace, Meshkini frankly unfolds the injustices laid on Iranian women through the stories of a young girl who, on her ninth birthday, is forbidden from playing with her male friends because she is now a "woman;" a young woman in a bicycle race who is pursued by her overbearing husband and family, all of whom forbade her from entering the race; and an older woman who goes on a shopping spree to buy all of the things she never had in life.
