Synopsis

One of the best "movie movies" ever made, Contempt stars Michel Piccoli as a screenwriter called in to doctor the script of a film version of The Odyssey as his marriage to his stunningly sexy wife (Brigitte Bardot) fall s apart. The legendary Fritz Lang plays himself as the movie's director and Jac k Palance is hilariously arrogant as the American producer. References to the Homer tale and contemporary movie culture abound in this endlessly fascinatin g movie shot in Cinemascope and Technicolor. Colin MacCabe went so far as to call it "the greatest work of art produced in post-war Europe," in Sight and Sound. In French with English subtitles. Jean-Luc Godard---France/Italy---1963---103 mins.

Talk, talk, talk. Brigitte Bardot naked. New location: Talk, talk, talk. Brigitte Bardot naked. Back to the First location: Arguing, talking, shouting, Brigitte Bardot naked. More talking, The End. I may be speaking heretically because I know Godard is considered a Genius Auteur, and a Iconoclastic Saint. But I think movies ought to have a little more going for them. I want to care about the characters in some way. I want to wonder what’s going to happen next. I want to see something happen. It doesn’t have to be a car crash or a thundering horde over the horizon but… something. I have enjoyed a few of Godard's films but i was underwhelmed by this one.
