Synopsis

An adoring tribute to the late, contemporary art sensation who took New York by storm in the early 1980s, Jean-Michel Basquiat. The son of Haitian and Puerto Rican parents, Basquiat rose from tagging to creating masterpieces worth thousands in less than a year's time. Though this is not the first documentary on his quick rise and decline into drugs, filmmaker Tamra Davis was a friend of the painter and has been sitting on remarkably candid footage of Basquiat. Until now. Friends, colleagues, and critics share their thoughts on his impact on a new art scene and, in return, fame's impact on the artist.Nominated for a Grand Jury Prize at Sundance.

Tamra Davis---USA---2010---88 mins.
