Synopsis

Akira Kurosawa moved outside his usual stylistic preoccupations to make this poetic and emotionally powerful work about a gravely ill, quiet and dignified civil servant who vows to find grace and purpose in his final months, through the building of a public park. It's a thoughtful, contemplative, lyrical work centered by Takashi Shimura's virtuoso performance. With Nobuo Kaneko, Kyoko Seki and Miki Odagiri. In Japanese with English subtitles.

A wonderful film about a person who wasted his life in mourning after his wife died and left him to raise their son. He let the boredom of his bureaucratic job fill his life and only woke up when faced with his eminent mortality. The director, Akira Kurosawa, keeps the story moving with care. You must see this film. Rv

A wonderful beautiful film that emphasizes that life is precious and short, that many of us waste most of it and that you can have a meaningful impact in this life if you not worried about the marquee impact of your accomplishments.
