Synopsis

David Lynch went digital with this surreal, experimental, and inexplicable film. Put simply, Inland Empire is about the darker side of Hollywood and Lynch's own subconscious pouring onto the screen. Like the best of his works--Blue Velvet, Twin Peaks, Mulholland Dr.--the pictu re does not stress narrative causality, instead focusing on outrageous shifts in tone, time, and space. It lurks about, not only from story to story, but to stories within stories. Laura Dern plays an actress vying for a role in a movie with a cursed script that sucks her into its nightmarish vignettes li ke Alice down the rabbit hole...if only it were that straightforward. If you''r e not a Lynch fan, take caution. All the sex, violence, and dark imagery migh t not be enough to support the three hours of weirdness. But Lynch enthusiast s will relish this vicarious, hypnotic experience. Cast includes Jeremy Irons , Naomi Watts, Justin Theroux, Harry Dean Stanton, Jan Hencz, William H. Macy , Krzysztof Majchrzak, Grace Zabriskie, Diane Ladd, Mary Steenburgen, Terry Crews, and Nastassja Kinski. Lynch personally oversaw the film''s exhibition . Lynch's "Inland Empire" defined for me the term experimental film. It was not surrealist, though it had elements of surrealism in it, but there was so much more: there were his usual themes of identity, misdirection, everyday happenings, along with a foreign film that seemed as if it were a murder mystery. Actually, the second disc of the set with the extras on it was more interesting than the feature: at least it didn't pretend to be a unified film, but was a collection of fragments such as Lynch's weirdo Julia Child cooking segment Quinoa. His talking points segment brought out his obsessive thought patterns more clearly than any film. And the part "Other Things that Happened"...well, what can I say? He could have taken a camera out into the street and fimed some of that stuff. Come to think of it, that might have been what he did. I just have one other thing to say: if you trade in pointlessness, you should at least trim the fat from whatever lean you have.

I honestly do not think this movie turns up anything new to chew on, it is by itself a compound of dissenence ,evolving chatter, immobilizing canter. Whaat ? yeah I was left with a hmmmmm feeling and ended up saying to myself.... dildo love.?
