Synopsis

Dutch documentary filmmaker Joris Ivens lived from 1898 to 1989 and made more than 40 films all over the world. Many of his most important films are compiled on the 5 DVD set Wereldcineast. Disc 1 features his earliest films, starting with a film he made at age 14 (De wigwam (1912, 10 min.), and also including Movement Studies in Paris (1927, 4 mins.), The Bridge (1928, 14 mins.), depicting the then-newly constructed Rotterdam vertical-lift railroad bridge, Rain (1929, 15 mins.), a classic example of the 'City Symphony' film, Philips Radio (1931, 36 mins.), Komsomol (Song of Heroes, Youth Speaks) (1933, 50 mins.), and New Earth (1933, 29 mins.)
