Synopsis

An inventive, irreverent and at times touching feature set against the backdrop of post-wall Berlin, winner of the International Critics' Prize at the Berlin Film Festival. The film follows the goofball misadventures of one Russian soldier, stranded in Berlin after his army unit deserts, a kind of "post-Communist Candide" who concocts a fabulous myth that his father was the hero of the liberation of Berlin (brilliantly aided with kitsch archival footage) and is helped in his homesickness by a Siberian tiger at the zoo and a trans-gendered Lenin who knits him a sock, gives him a French kiss and asks him to remove a bullet from his head. English, German and Russian with English Dusan Makavejev---Germany---1993---83 mins.
