Synopsis

After playing Hunter S. Thompson in Fear & Loathing, Johnny Depp dives back into the world of the gonzo writer for this fun adaptation of Thompson's early novel. It's essentially an autobiography of Thompson's trials as a young writer, only renamed Paul Kemp. He's an American journalist who travels to Puerto Rico for a freelance job at a small paper in 1960. The pay isn't great, but there's plenty of booze to keep him stimulated, and a beautiful blond local (Amber Heard) to keep him preoccupied. When her rich fiance (Aaron Eckhart) approaches Kemp to write some positive PR about his shady land deals, the reporter sees an opportunity to take down his business and take off with his girl. Featuring Michael Rispoli and Giovanni Ribisi. From the director of Withnail & I.
