Synopsis

This six-part PBS documentary series tries to distill the essence of middle America by focusing on Muncie, Indiana. Episodes include: Tom Cohen's "The Campaign," which covers a mayoral race on both sides of the Democratic and Republican ticket; E.J. Vaugh's "The Big Game," showing the vitality of local sports, specifically high school basketball; Richard Leacock and Marisa Silver's "Community of Praise," a consideration of faith and everyday life in a fundamentalist family; Cohen's "Family Business," which shows the trials and tribulations of a family-owned pizza place; Peter Davis and John Lindley's "Second Time Around," which tracks the impending wedding of two divorcees; and Joel DeMott and Jeff Kreines' "Seventeen," looks at the lives of teenagers as they approach "adulthood" in their senior year of high school.
