Synopsis

A cinéma vérité landmark. "On a December evening in 1966 filmmaker Shirley Clarke set down with Jason Holliday, a gay black man with dreams of becoming a performer. For 12 hours, Clarke filmed this man as he spoke of his life, his desires, frustrations...." Holliday is articulate, witty, self-aware, and willing to admit publicly everything which has been considered desirable to keep secret.

Shirley Clarke---USA---1967---105 mins.

Beautiful and before it's time. But; as a "project" (not a documentary) Shirley Clarke and her crew were not flies on a wall- they were downright mean and pushed their subject for more interesting material. I would have preferred just to view and hear the wonderful subject, Jason, than hear the voices behind the camera.
