Set in late-60s suburban Minneapolis, the Coen brothers' relatively low profile, but highly effective dark comedy focuses on a timid, Jewish physics professor (Michael Stuhlbarg), who has a crisis of faith amidst the disintegration of his family. "A labor of love...This isn't a laugh-laugh movie, but a wince-wince movie" (Roger Ebert, Chicago Sun-Times). Co-starring Richard Kind, Fred Melamed, Sari Lennick, and Amy Landecker.

I loved the absurd humor as the main character struggled to maintain his dignity. I am not Jewish, and this film depended a lot on knowledge of Jewish traditions, but none-the-less, it speaks to anyone who has been blindsided by unexpected events. The three rabbis were hilarious. Being a teacher, I loved the scenes with the Korean student demanding a higher grade in a physics class. Very entertaining. The Coen Brothers seldom disappoint.
