Synopsis

Winner of the Grand Prize at the 2008 Cannes Film Festival, this Italian gangster film was based on Roberto Saviano's undercover account of life in Naples' crime underworld. Director Matteo Garrone weaves together five storylines from the bestseller, ranging from the highest rungs of the Camorra crime family to the mafia's influence on poor teens--poor teens in their underwear with guns! "Utilizing a mesmerizing documentary style that studiously avoids glamorizing the horrors...building to a chillingly matter-of-fact crescendo of violence" (Variety). In Italian with English subtitles. Matteo Garrone---Italy---2008---137 mins.

Yeah, I suppose we root for the hoods in The godfather sagas. That attitude reminds me how, when I was a kid, i quit reading Crime does not pay comics while the gangsters were still ahead, before they were bumped off, executed or incarcerated. Although Gommorah is depressing, like the book it is based upon, , it h had to be made.

Okay film. Very forgettable. No real value. There are no characters to root for. They're just a bunch of people doing bad things.
