Synopsis

Fritz Lang's expertly crafted, taut film adaptation of the 1939 novel, Rogue Male. Walter Pidgeon plays a British hunter on an adventure in Bavaria. There he manages to get Hitler in his gunsight just for the thrill of it, but is captured and brutalized by the Gestapo nonetheless. Co-starring Joan Bennett, George Sanders, John Carradine, and Roddy McDowall. Black-and-white cinematography by Arthur C. Miller (How Green Was My Valley).

A very good film. The direction by Lang is top-notch. The violence is raw but unseen. The movie moves quickly from the forests of Germany to the shadowing streets of London. The suspense builds and builds, but with moments of humor to balance the tension. The movie ends on a note of tragedy and optimism. You must see this movie !! Rv

I hadn't seen this movie in many decades but my vague recollection was that it was very good. I am pleased to report that it as watchable as I remembered. Walter Pigeon is splendid as the aristocratic English hero as is George Sands as the aristocratic Nazi. Without much explicit violence, except for a short hand to hand combat between David Carradine and Pigeon, the movie excells at the suggestion of evil.
