An acquaintance who knows I dislike religion recommended this movie. It lived down to my expectations regarding religion, and up to my expectations as to why I'm not fond of the horror genre.

I know that The Wicker Man is a cult classic, but it left me cold. The plot is preposterous. Edward Woodward's stiff upper lip, which served him so well in Breaker Morant, makes him look clueless in this film. Actors put on and shed scots accents. (Britt Ekland's voice was actually dubbed.) Should I mention one of the most annoying soundtracks ever recorded? AnD can anyone tell me what, or who, the wicker man is supposed to signify? The pagans would have saved themselves a lot of work by simply burning the gormless policeman at the stake. They should have read up on Savonrola and Joan of Arc. Burning at the stake is more effective when unlookers can actually see the victim roasting. Very much a movie of its time, the early seventies when paganism was in vogue for a brief period. It all seems rather silly now.,
