Synopsis

Following explicit directions left by Orson Welles in a 58-page memo he wrote to Universal Pictures executives after he was deprived of a final cut, producer Rick Schmidlin supervised this restoration of Welles' masterful film noir. Editor Walter Murch and Chicago Reader film critic Jonathan Rosenbaum also served as consultants on this lovingly crafted version of one of the director's best films. The film remains much the same, with subtle but significant re-editing that brings the film closer to Welles' original vision. The most rewarding change was the removal of the credits that once partially blocked one of the most exciting opening shots in film history.

Orson Welles---USA---1958---111 mins.

Great Orson Welles flick. Good dark cinematography. He is a very good actor. Five stars.
