Synopsis

By combining WWII archival footage with visuals shot by John Alcott (A Clockwork Orange) on matching film stock, Stuart Cooper created a truly original war film that tracks the fictional journey of one seemingly insignificant British soldier, from boot camp to the frontlines of Normandy. Forsaking the epic for the intimate, this rare, unjustly forgotten picture presents monstrous war machines and a real sense of doomed isolation in a matter-of-fact manner unlike any other Western war film. Winner of the Silver Bear at the Berlin International Film Festival. Produced by London's Imperial Stuart Cooper---Great Britain---1975---84 mins.

Skip the extras on this one. The film itself is a classic, but the backstory on the disk makes you wish that those being interviewed had been part of the invasion (for better or for worse).
