Synopsis

A collection of five films produced (and some directed) by multiple-time Academy Award Nominee Stanley Kramer. In Member of the Wedding (Fred Zinnemann, 1952, 91 mins.), Julie Harris gives an exceptional performance as a motherless, 12-year-old girl who is tormented by the awkwardness of adolescence and her struggle toward womanhood. A neglected classic, The 5,000 Fingers of Dr. T (Roy Rowland, 1953, 88 mins.), tells the fantastic tale of a young boy who so hates taking piano lessons that he dreams his teacher is a cruel genius ruling over a baroque castle where kidnapped boys are sadistically forced to practice the piano over and over again. The Wil d One (Laszlo Benedek, 1954, 79 mins.) stars Marlon Brando as Johnny, the leader of a vicious biker gang which invades a small, sleepy California town . The leather-jacketed biker seems bent on destruction until he falls for Kathie, a "good girl." In Ship of Fools (Stanley Kramer, 1965, 149 mins.), based on Katherine Anne Porter's acclaimed novel, the interlocking stories tell of passengers on a ship sailing from Mexico to pre-Hitler Germany. Lastly, in the Oscar-winning Guess Who''s Coming to Dinner (Kramer, 1967, 108 mins.), Spencer Tracy and Katharine Hepburn make their last film together as the liberal but frazzled couple who are a bit uneasy abou t Fred Zinnemann/Roy Rowland/Laszlo Benedek/Stanley Kramer---USA---1952-1967
