Although quite popular when released in 1916, this film has aged substantially. The filmmakers relentlessly hammer the antiwar message into our heads, and the figure of Christ is used to press the message even deeper. It probably seemed heavy-handed at the time this film was first released; now it just seems ridiculous. That being said, I must, however, praise the cinematography and rapid editing (noticeable even on this creaky print). Reginald Barker and Thomas H. Ince were clearly talented directors, but they let the "importance" of their work get the better of them. As a bonus, also included on this tape are are a short film with Harold Lloyd and an excerpt from a Clara Bow feature.
