Synopsis

Only available in North America as pricey imports until now, Criterion assembles in one reasonable set this thrilling trilogy of famed stage productions as interpreted in flamenco by Spanish auteur Carlos Saura. The three films star legendary dancer and choreographer Antonio Gades in a mix of exhilarating cinematography, fiery music, and "some of the most remarkable dancing ever captured by a camera" (Film Society of Lincoln Center). Set includes Blood Wedding (Bodas de Sangre, 1981, 71 mins.), a flamenco ballet version of Federico Garcia Lorca's dramatic classic, Carmen (1983, 101 mins.), a brilliant, joyful mounting of Bizet''s ope ra as well as an Academy Award nominee for Best Foreign Film, and El Amor Brujo (1986, 103 mins.), which was inspired by Manuel de Falla''s musica l piece about two ill-fated lovers. Another good film from director Carlos Saura. The music and dancing are (of course) great.
