Synopsis

Ice Cube, Eve and Cedric the Entertainer star in this comedy about a young man who sells his father's barbershop, only to later realize how important it is to him and his neighborhood. Smart, yet often crude, humor and dialogue punctuate the film, which received a bit of notoriety due to its comments about civil rights icons, Rosa Parks and Rev. Martin Luther King, Jr. Tim Story---USA---2002---102 mins.

Well done black slice-of-life comedy, set in a south side Chicago barbershop. Cedric the Entertainer, who is well named, steals every scene he's in. Ice Cube plays the very serious lead role convincingly. The film aimed at a rating of less than "R", so the "mother" word and other language so characteristic of ghetto vocabulary are missing here. The film was successful enough to spawn a sequel. One interesting side note: a bi-racial character is white, rather than black.
